The Indian Academy of Pediatrics was established in 1963 with the chief aims of developing excellence in curative and preventive services for children, education of pediatricians and other personnel. Presently it has about 20,000 members. IAP has branches in various States of the country and large cities. It has several subspecialty chapters, which have promoted availability of highly specialized care to children with complex and chronic problems.
IAP has advanced medical education through its scientific publications and numerous conferences and other activities. IAP’s role in the promotion of breast feeding, treatment of diarrheal, immunizations and newborn care has been widely acclaimed.
